Meet Monica:

Your guide to empowering yourself to nourish, heal, and live a vibrant life

By balancing the foundations of health (a nutrient dense diet, healthy digestion, stress management, sleep hygiene, and blood sugar regulation) you can reach your health and wellness goals.

I’m Monica; Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP), FLAG Certified Coach and retired Board Certified Medical-Surgical Nurse. I am passionate about food and lifestyle being medicine in achieving your health and wellness goals.

Being in healthcare for over 25 years, I have learned that real health comes from within ourselves. It is our responsibility to be accountable for our health outcomes. We must educate ourselves and find what works for our unique and complex body versus strictly relying on what works for everyone else. As an NTP, I have learned it is not one size fits all. I want to help people by educating them on how to make better food and lifestyle choices which will balance their foundations of health (nutrient dense diet, sleep, stress, digestion, and blood sugar regulation). And then everything else will fall into place.

Have we met yet?

What exactly is Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional Therapy is a science based, holistic approach to wellness that respects the bio-individuality of each person, evaluating underlying nutritional needs and imbalances that lead to dysfunction in the body. We use a combination of whole food nutrition, lifestyle, and supplementation (when needed) to address the foundations of health. Instead of masking symptoms, we address them. It is not a quick fix magic pill. Based on your unique needs, we will utilize the healing power of food, along with lifestyle changes and healthy habits to assist the body in what it needs to thrive.

How I Got Here:

For as long as I can remember, I thought I was meant to be a nurse.

But when it came time to apply for school, I realized I couldn’t stand the idea of needles going into me. Weird, right? So, I pivoted. Business school seemed like the logical next step—no needles involved—but I had no clue what I’d do with a business degree. After a short stint that included failed economics and algebra classes (and more parties than I care to admit), I returned home to regroup. That’s when it hit me: my desire to care for others had never left. I enrolled in a three-year diploma program, and in 1996, graduated with the final class from that school’s hands-on, clinically intense training. From there, I began my nursing career in a cardiac step-down/med-surg unit and later expanded my experience to outpatient dialysis, an orthopedic surgeon’s office, and oral surgery. I returned to acute care weekends while raising my kids—and loved it. I was good at it. Educating patients and families became my favorite part of the job.

In 2012, I stepped into a leadership role as an Assistant Director of a medical-surgical unit. It was an exciting challenge, but over time, I began to feel a growing disconnect. The patients were getting sicker, the medication lists were getting longer, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that something deeper was contributing to the rise in chronic illness. I didn’t know exactly what that “something” was, but I knew I wanted to shift from treating symptoms to helping people get truly well. In 2019, I transitioned into school nursing so I could be more present for my two middle school boys—one of whom has a severe intellectual disability. While subbing in local schools, I was struck by how many children were living with asthma, diabetes, and food allergies. These weren’t the kinds of conditions I remembered from childhood. I couldn’t help but ask: what’s changed?

My own questions about health and healing go back even further, to 2004 when my oldest son was a newborn.

He suffered from recurring sinus infections, acid reflux, and digestive distress. After being on countless rounds of antibiotics and multiple medications, we discovered he had dairy and soy protein intolerances. Removing those from his diet changed everything. Later, I took him off gluten, and again, his behavior and stomach issues improved. He wasn’t allergic in the traditional sense, but it was clear his body couldn’t tolerate those foods. His experiences, and mine as a mother navigating them, planted seeds that I couldn’t ignore. Years later, I began dealing with chronic sinus drainage myself—nothing helped until I removed dairy and discovered, through a guided elimination diet, that my symptoms resolved completely. I tested negative for an allergy, but the connection was undeniable. That experience cracked things wide open for me. I started questioning everything I thought I knew about wellness.

By the time I left school nursing in 2021, I was deep into my own health transformation.

I pursued certification through the Nutritional Therapy Association and became a FLAG (Fast Like A Girl) Certified Coach under Dr. Mindy Pelz. What I learned confirmed what I had always suspected: true wellness is about more than pills and protocols—it’s about addressing root causes and building strong foundations. I’ve used blood sugar monitoring and sleep tracking technology to learn what foods work best for my body and how lifestyle choices like late meals, heavy dinners, and stress impact everything from hormones to weight loss. I’ve shifted my focus to strength training, blood sugar balance, digestive support, and nervous system regulation. And I’ve never felt more aligned with my work—or with myself.

As I deepened my understanding of nutrition and holistic health, I realized that true wellness goes beyond just treating symptoms; its about addressing root causes.

My journey has been long, winding, and deeply personal. It’s been shaped by my professional background, my experience as a mother and caregiver, and my own health challenges. But every step has brought me closer to this truth: the power of food and lifestyle is real. I’ve reclaimed my health, and I’m passionate about helping others do the same. Whether you’re overwhelmed, exhausted, or unsure where to begin, I want you to know there’s another way. You don’t have to stay stuck in survival mode. You can feel better. And I’ll walk beside you every step of the way as you take your power back, too.

  • "I have energy and the body pain is starting to decrease."

Just want to really thank you. I forget what we put in our bodies can really affect our mental health as well as physical! I have been going to the gym and walking daily. I have been eating and taking all my vitamin supplements and wow-I have energy and the body pain is starting to decrease. Also I feel better mentally-I can think clearly and I haven’t cried in days-that was becoming a daily thing. I was starting to fall into a routine of just sleeping a lot and being sad all the time and that’s going away now.
